How to Start Your Child’s Journey at Ceconi BJJ

We know that walking into a martial arts academy for the first time can be intimidating for both parents and kids. We have streamlined the process to make it as welcoming and easy as possible for our Pinehurst neighbors.

Here is how to do it:

Step 1: Schedule a Trial Class

The best way to know if BJJ is right for your child is to let them experience it. You don’t need to commit to a long-term contract right away. Simply contact us through our website or give us a call to schedule your child’s first introductory class. We offer specific age-bracketed classes, from our preschool “Tiny Champions” up to older youth.

Step 2: What to Bring on Day One

You don’t need any special gear for the first day!

• Attire: Have your child wear comfortable workout clothes—a fitted t-shirt or rashguard and athletic shorts or sweatpants (without zippers or pockets).

• Hydration: Bring a water bottle.

• Mindset: Remind them that the goal of the first day is simply to have fun, listen to the coaches, and try something new.

Step 3: Arrive a Little Early

Plan your drive from Pinehurst to arrive about 10-15 minutes before class starts. This gives you time to fill out a quick waiver, meet our front desk staff, and introduce your child to the instructor. This extra time helps ease any pre-class jitters.

Step 4: Watch the Transformation Begin

During the class, you can sit back in our viewing area and watch. You will see our coaches guide your child through a fun warm-up, teach them a basic, safe technique, and pair them with a friendly partner. We focus heavily on creating a cooperative, ego-free environment where every child helps each other learn.

Step 5: Join the Ceconi Family

After the class, our team will sit down with you to answer any questions you have. If your child had a great time (and we are confident they will!), we will help you choose the right membership and get them fitted for their very first Jiu-Jitsu Gi (uniform).
